Cherry Blossom Tunnel at Keage Incline

There are many cherry blossom viewing spots in the Higashiyama area of Kyoto, including Maruyama Park.

You can enjoy cherry blossom viewing wherever you go, whether it's along the streets of the city, in temple gardens, or in parks.

Among them, the Keage Incline allows you to experience going through a tunnel lined with cherry blossom trees.

An incline is a cargo lifting facility that was used when Lake Biwa Canal was used as a canal.

It was used to carry boats on carts over different heights.

Today, only the stone walls and rails remain, making it a hidden gem that gives you a glimpse of the olden days.

The location is on the border between the Higashiyama and Okazaki areas, near Nanzenji Temple.

It is a quiet area where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the tourist center.

It is a direct subway ride from the city center and takes about 20 minutes.

From the Higashiyama area, it takes about an hour to walk through Maruyama Park towards Okazaki.
